Mindsets, Methods, Strategies and Structures (M2S2℠)
January 2012 - Humans are adaptable, but most organizations aren’t. M2S2 is a new
way to understand why and how to succeed at providing more care for less cost.
Traditionally organizations seek to optimize what works, so they develop Mindsets,
Methods, Strategies and Structures (M2S2) designed to improve on past success –
“Don’t reinvent the wheel!”
That works great until it’s time to reinvent the wheel. Then established, successful
M2S2’s always slow, stall or stop adaptive innovations that don’t fit their status quo.
The solution is to create a new M2S2, particularly the first M – Mindsets. Change
people’s minds and everything else will follow. It’s a new opportunity for healthcare
leadership that really makes the difference.
The Learner/Leader/Teacher (LLT℠)
January 2012 – Thriving in 21st Century healthcare means providing more care for
less cost. But we don’t work that way. Therefore, we need to change how people
think and act in our organizations.
So, we must need more Change Management, right? Or, do we?
Trying harder at Change Management, gathering more data and having more
meetings and taskforces are not the answers. Experience in Adaptive Design and
the latest research in Neurophysiology show that a management innovation called
Learning/Leader/Teacher (LLT) really does change minds and make a difference.
LLT is the neurophysiology of leadership in action. It’s the 21st Century opportunity
for management. It’s the way to change your M2S2.
M2S2 and LLT are new ways to frame our opportunities to provide much more care
at much less cost. That’s the way to thrive in 21st Century healthcare. They will be
major themes for Adaptive Design this year.
